1. What makes the Georgetown Church of Christ different from other churches I have attended?

From the moment you enter the front door, you are greeted and welcomed by several people and you will know that this is a unique church. The casual, warm and meaningful worship services have music to fit just about anyone's taste. Our Senior Minister's down-to-earth Bible teaching is practical and relevant to everyday life. The array of Teen and Children's services, Bible classes and activities accent our care for young people.

2. What do you mean by "Church of Christ"?

Our message is that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God." We require no other creed than this one. He alone is Lord and Savior. The church belongs to Him. We have no authority to change the teachings, rewrite the rules, offer altered membership requirements or usurp His authority. As much as possible, we are trying to imitate the teachings found in the New Testament as far as what Jesus' church is supposed to be today. That is why our baptism is by immersion, our Communion is every Sunday, our leaders are called Elders, our preaching is about Christ, and our prayers are offered in Jesus' name. Even our church name is an attempt to imitate the earliest disciples who were called Christians.

3. What should I wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Many people wear casual clothes to our worship services. If you would like to wear a suit and tie, that's ok, too!

4. How long does the service last?

Services usually last an hour and a half.

5. What can I expect when I walk in the door?

You can expect a friendly greeting from someone wearing a "Welcome Team" badge. This person will help direct you to the sanctuary, the Welcome Center, the nursery, or even the restroom! People will be mingling about, talking and laughing, while others will be finding a seat in the sanctuary, waiting for the worship service to begin.

6. What worship "style" should I expect?

In our attempt to be relevant and at the same time remain reverent, you can expect a variety of music styles. We attempt to lead our worship service in a style of music that best reflects the make-up of our church family while motivating a spirit of excitement and joy. These styles will include some of the traditional hymns led in a more contemporary, inspiring way, as well as the more contemporary praise songs and choruses. All services are led by a worship team of singers accompanied by a worship band.

7. What happens during a typical worship service?

Most services open with an upbeat worship song followed by a few moments where everyone greets those around them. One of the Ministers will give a welcome and introduction before additional worship and singing. Our Senior Minister will then direct our thoughts to the cross of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sins so that we can remember our Lord's death in taking the "Lord's Supper," consisting of a small cracker and cup of grape juice (reminding us of Jesus' body and blood). A special musical performance will be sung while the offering is collected, after which the Senior Minister will bring a relevant message. A closing time of commitment and encouragement follows as all are dismissed to serve the Lord in the coming week where we live and work.

8. Will I be put on the spot during any of the services?

Absolutely not. We will not embarrass you by introducing you or pinning a nametag on you. You can come in and remain as anonymous as you'd like. If you would like to receive a mailing from us, you can add your name and address to our "Who's Who in the Pew" booklet that is passed down the pew.

9. Will I be expected to donate money if I attend a service?

You are welcome as our guest and the worship service is our gift to you. We do not in any way expect you to give money to our church unless you feel led to do so.

10. I have kids of all ages…an infant, an 8-year old and a teenager. What about them?

There is a very safe and caring children's program available during our worship services. Pre-school and children's Bible study classes occur simultaneously with our adult worship services. The teenagers meet in the gymnasium for “Reset,” a contemporary worship service designed with the teenager in mind. Adam Jones, Students Minister, directs this service and preaches each week.

11. Will my teenagers want to come back?

We are one of the only churches in the area providing quality teen ministry. With a full-time Students Minister dedicated to reaching and ministering to teens, they not only want to come back but they return with their friends.

12. How do I get to the church?

We are located at the corner of Route 68 and Hamer Road on the north side of Georgetown, Ohio. From Mt. Orab (Rt. 32), we are 12 miles south on the right side of Rt. 68. We are 7miles north of Ripley on the left side of Rt. 68.
